Overview
The Paro Tshechu is one of the kingdom's oldest and most cherished festivals, held each spring in the courtyard of Rinpung Dzong. Its final morning draws enormous crowds for the unfurling of the thongdrel — a vast embroidered banner said to cleanse onlookers of sin at first sight.
Around the festival, this journey stays close to home: the Paro Valley's temples, farmhouses and the Tiger's Nest hike, plus a day or overnight in Thimphu to discover the capital.
Festival dates follow the Bhutanese lunar calendar and shift each year; we confirm them against the official festival calendar before you book.
