Overview
Bumthang is where Bhutanese history and legend run deepest — the valley of Bhutan's oldest temples, of the saint Pema Lingpa, and of the butter-lamp lit monasteries pilgrims have visited for over a thousand years.
This extended journey follows the classic eastward route: over the Dochu La, through the glacial Phobjikha Valley, across the Pele La and Yotong La passes into central Bhutan, returning the same way at a gentler pace.
Expect long scenic drives rewarded by valleys that few travellers reach, farmhouse meals, and evenings of quiet in Bhutan's most spiritual landscape.
